Nikki Grant Testifies at Hearing on Racial & Gender Bias in the Courts

On February 19th Amistad Law Project Policy Director Nikki Grant testified in front of PA Senate and House Democratic Policy Committees and the PA Legislative Black Caucus about how the courts kept marginalized communities locked up during a global pandemic.

For several years Nikki has been organizing a campaign to hold judges accountable and serves as the Court Watch Coordinator for the Judge Accountability Table. Over the past year court watch volunteers with the Judge Accountability Table observed over 800 hearings in the courtrooms of 32 judges. They found widespread problems including that during emergency hearings to release people from pre-trial incarceration during the pandemic judges would often side with the prosecutor.
