A Powerful Premiere of THE MAN WHO CAME HOME

Thank you to all of you who came out to our screening of THE MAN WHO CAME HOME last night! We were grateful to have the film’s star, Francisco Mojica, in the house. After the screening, he was joined by community organizer, Martha Williams, Amistad Staff Attorney, Sabirha Williams, Sean Damon of Straight Ahead, and Rep. Rick Krajewski for a conversation about second chances for incarcerated people.
A theme that came up often through the conversation was that if we want safer streets, we need to restore elders to our communities. Second chances are violence prevention. Folks who have come home are the best positioned to guide struggling young people toward a healthy path and sense of purpose.
Panelists also shared about the arduous and opaque process of applying for commutation. Sabirha reminded folks in the audience that you do not need to have money or advanced degrees to support a loved one through this process. You just need to care and seek out resources. Next Wednesday, September 3, Amistad will be co-hosting a virtual event about navigating the commutation process, so please join us if you'd like to learn more. You'll need to register here for the Zoom link.
Stay tuned for details on upcoming screenings, and drop us a line if you’d like us to bring the film to your classroom, workplace, or community group! We can’t wait to share this film with you.
