Solidarity is the Way

Leaders from Juntos, VietLead, and Amistad speak at the gathering

It was a joy to partner with Juntos and VietLead for a powerful night of storytelling and connection this weekend! We were energized to see all kinds of people come together to learn more and commit to the fight against the criminalization of all human beings, whether we’re immigrants or Black and brown people born and raised in Philly. No one is disposable. We all deserve to be treated with dignity and to live joyful lives connected to our communities.

We screened The Man Who Came Home, which traces the story of our friend and former client Francisco Mojica. The film captures Francisco's struggle to make it in Philly as a young immigrant from Puerto Rican, and then his work to overcome a Death By Incarceration sentence to reunite with his wife in North Philadelphia.

We honor Francisco, along with Linda Hernandez and Debbie Wei, for sharing their stories in the films we screened. Each of them have fought tirelessly for justice for their communities for decades, and we are lucky to be in struggle alongside them.

One key takeaway for everyone in the room was that all of our struggles are connected. We belong to one another and we need each other in the fight for a just city that values all of us equally.

Stay tuned for more screenings of Amistad films and follow Juntos and VietLead to learn more about how to join them in the fight for immigrant communities in Philly.
