WATCH: How Mechie Got Free! A Webinar on Commutation.

In devastating times like the moment we’re in, we’ve got to celebrate our wins. That’s why we teamed up with the Abolitionist Law Center and Let's Get Free to unpack the successful campaign to Free Marie “Mechie” Scott.

Right now, the only pathway home for the 5,300 people in Pennsylvania sentenced to Death By Incarceration is commutation. As we work to end DBI through the courts and legislation, we want to tangibly support folks inside and their loved ones as they seek to have their sentences commuted. The application process typically takes three to five years, and there are a lot of unwritten rules.

Attorneys and organizers at the Abolitionist Law Center, Let’s Get Free, and Amistad Law Project have collectively supported hundreds of clients through the process. Watch the video below to learn more about the commutation process and hear what worked in the campaign to Free Mechie.
